Now you've done an incremental replication to your USB drive, which updated it with the new stuff since you took the first snapshot. Later, after you've added more stuff to your nas4free instance: zfs snapshot zfs send -I | zfs receive backup/data You just did a full replication to the USB drive. zfs snapshot zfs send | zfs receive backup/data Let's say your NAS4Free mirror vdev is nas4free, with a dataset named data that you keep all your stuff in, and your backup hard drive is backup.
